Finchley Area Guide

Finchley is an area of northwest London in the Borough of Barnet.
It is largely a residential suburb, with three main town centres: North Finchley, East Finchley and Finchley Central. North Finchley surrounds the Tally-Ho corner, stretching west to the Northern line in postcode district N12. East Finchley is roughly between Highgate and the North Circular Road and is situated in the N2 postal area. Finchley Central previously referred to as ‘Church End’ is north and west of the North Circular Road. It centres on Ballards Lane and Finchley Central Underground station in postal area N3

Schools

Finchley offers plenty of choice for students and those taking higher education courses. There are no less than 15 top-performing state primary schools, many of which have been judged ‘outstanding’ by government watchdog Ofsted. St Mary’s, Manorside and Moss Hall Infants are among the most sought-after.
At secondary level, the options are just as extensive for both state and private schools. In 2014, St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School was voted among the top 20 secondary schools in the UK. Other popular establishments include the Jewish school Hasmonean High and Wren Academy.. The nearby Pardes House Grammar School is a renowned Orthodox Jewish private school for boys.
Finally, the oversubscribed Woodhouse College provides a range of A and AS level courses. It’s considered one of the best colleges in England, based on the high grade pass rates for A levels.


Transport

With quick links into central London and close to the North Circular Road, Finchley has three main Tube stations; Finchley Central, West Finchley and Woodside Park — all on the Northern line and in Zone 4. From Finchley Central the No 60 bus goes to Baker Street, Marble Arch and Victoria, while the No 143 and the No 326 take shoppers to Brent Cross.
An annual travel card to Zone 1 will costs around   £1,960.
Finchley has two busy high streets; one in Finchley Central and the other in North Finchley around Tally-Ho Corner. Brent Cross shopping centre can be easily reached by bus.
