Friern Barnet Area Guide

Friern Barnet, N11 is a suburban area within the London Borough of Barnet about 7 miles north of Charing Cross. Its centre is formed by the busy intersection of Colney Hatch Lane (running north and south), Woodhouse Road (taking westbound traffic towards North Finchley) and Friern Barnet Road (leading east towards New Southgate).
Much of the property is owner-occupied, but in recent years many of the larger properties have been subdivided into flats and bedsits. There are also some areas of modern housing, notably Princess Park Manor, a luxury redevelopment of the once-famous Victorian institution the Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum.

There are a number of primaries in Southgate and the surrounding areas, including Walker Primary, Osidge Primary and Brunswick Primary School for younger children, the local Ashmole Academy and Southgate School in neighbouring Cockfosters, for 11 and upwards; and for girls the independent Palmers Green High School.

Transport

The main tube station in Southgate is called Southgate and is on the Piccadilly line.
A journey from Southgate to Piccadilly Circus would take approximately 33 minutes.

The following night buses run through/from the Southgate area;
N91 towards Cockfosters or Trafalgar Square.
